One of our early manufacturing locations – 1104 N. Ben Lomond Ave, Glendora CA. Circa 1939, our catalog reads "Rain Bird Sprinklers are the slow rotating type, perfectly balanced and driven by a patented action consisting of an oscillator arm actuated onward by the stream, and brought back through the stream by the medium of a torsional spring, causing an impact, thus propelling the rotating member forward by regularly controlled impacts." Today we`ve shortened this description to "Impact Sprinkler" but the innovation and steady, reliable performance remains the same.

🛠️ Not one to rest on his laurels, Orton was constantly tinkering and trying to make things better. Everyone who knew him describes him as a consummate tinkerer.
📍 In 1990, @asabeorg listed the Rain Bird Impact Drive Sprinkler as a Historic Landmark among many other great inventions like the cotton gin, center pivot irrigation and the combine.
Orton Englehart is true a pioneer of Design Thinking and Continuous Improvement.
